JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant

REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday (8:00am-4:30pm)

LOCATION: Santa Monica, CA

STATUS: Full-time; Exempt; 40 hours/week

CELL PHONE: Reimbursement for use

DRIVING POSITION: Yes [if yes, please reference driving policy]  

SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $75,000 Annually

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position will be responsible for performing all tasks of the Accounting department by performing day-to-day and month-to-month accounting functions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Perform full cycle accounting function.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, monitor progress and changes.
  • Perform daily transaction recording in accordance with GAAP.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations, post adjusting journal entries, and provide useful variance analysis as appropriate.
  • Accurately perform accounting activities including general accounting, cost accounting, revenue recognition, fixed assets, accounts receivable and payable, invoicing, expense and revenue coding, restricted funds classifications and releases, personnel cost allocations, monthly close and reporting.
  • Provide timely responses to requests for information and analyses from senior management.
  • Maintain, manage, and report on strategic cash flow initiatives including detailed model preparation.
  • Create and prepare other useful financial, management and program reports as directed and as needed including budget vs. actual, financial KPIs and other analysis?reports
  • Organize and update financial records, business logs and perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare regulatory filings including sales tax returns, 1099’s, and other grant financial reports
  • Assist CFO in accurate preparation of general and specialized projects, reports and audits.
  • Perform payroll with third party processors
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required. 
  • 4 years of experience in accounting or a related field is required.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills 
  • Ability to read and analyze financial reports 
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and regulations
  • Must have experience and skills with QuickBooks Desktop
  • Experience with interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience preparing journal entries and monthly closing process.
  • Must have experience and skills with MS Excel
  • Experience and Skills with Google Suite
  • Ability to learn new skills and follow directions
  • Professional and Ethical principles and conduct
  • Nonprofit accounting experience is desirable but not necessary
