Global Internship Program:

Exciting opportunity to be part of the Labcorp 2025 Global Internship Program as a Clinical Diagnostic Lab Assistant Interns in the San Deigo, California.

In this lab, interns work in a fast paced, production type environment and will be responsible for performing various non-technical tasks within the laboratory.

This is a 12-week position from May 19 – August 9, and will occur on day shift between 8am-4:30pm.

About the Team:

• The clinical laboratory provides a wide range of laboratory procedures which aid in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients. The team consists of highly trained laboratory professionals that ensure accurate and timely reporting of tests results.

Internship Assignment Summary: 

• Perform tasks at the lab assistant level that include: Receiving/Accessioning of specimens. Aliquoting of specimens for initial and confirmatory testing. Assisting Technologists with management of workflow and re-filling of reagents and QC. Loading and unloading of initial testing batches onto the screening instrumentation in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and supervisor guidance. Maintain inventory of laboratory or instrument supplies and reagents. Notify appropriate personnel or supervisor of any shortages. Follow proper chemical waste disposal procedures, and handling of chemicals according to the safety manual and Material Safety Data Sheet
• Assist the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases through troubleshooting specimen related problems, dispatching couriers, receiving patient specimens, and processing microbiology cultures
• Assist in performing and recording instrument and equipment maintenance and function checks.
• Understand and comply with all laboratory and safety policies.
• Perform other assigned projects including, process improvements.

Education/Qualifications/Skills:

• Working towards bachelor’s with a goal of completing a Clinical Laboratory Science program, (preferred), or in a program studying biochemistry, microbiology, biology, or chemistry.
• Has experience delivering multiple projects in an academic or professional setting
• Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and internal/external colleagues
• Demonstrated ability performing work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability working effectively in fast paced, high-volume environment and while prioritizing and manage multiple tasks
• Able to work independently under general supervision
• Expressed desire and interest to work in a laboratory as a technologist after completing an undergraduate degree
• Must be able to regularly lift, carry, and rotate/turn with up to thirty pounds
