Director, Chief of Staff - Connectivity & Collaborative Engineering

The Director, Chief of Staff is a critical position supporting senior leadership, enabling leaders to execute strategic work while ensuring operational rigor. The Chief of Staff will form part of the broader Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering (CORE) chief of staff organization, acting as a dedicated strategic partner to the Managing Vice President of Connectivity and Collaborative Engineering (CaCE) as part of the leadership team and supporting the broader CaCE organization. The Chief of Staff is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining the following four strategic areas foundational for the success of the organization: 1) Strategy, 2) Operational Excellence, 3) Organizational Culture, and 4) Communications.

Candidates should have a passion for technology, strong strategic command, an engaging executive presence, exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills, expertise in relationship-building, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once. Candidates should be excited about improving the daily lives and supporting the development of our engineers, and about helping our leaders advance our strategy at scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner for the CaCE Managing Vice President and the leadership team, helping guide the operations and management of the organization. 

  • Act as a central point of contact between the CaCE leadership team and enabling functions such as Finance, Supplier Management, Risk, Product, CORE horizontal functions in the broader chief of staff organization (e.g., Organizational Strategy, Insights & Analytics, Portfolio Management) and other key partners. Ensure alignment of leaders across the organization. 

  • Prioritize and focus leaders in a number of key areas (goals, labor strategy, budget, associate engagement, culture, operational excellence, etc). Aid the leadership team in strategic planning, uncovering critical efficiencies and preventing duplication of effort.

  • Understand and contribute to refining the organization’s strategy and vision, facilitate the Leadership team to drive and track goals and priorities. Tackle and solve issues through escalation, drive clear accountability, and help to tease out critical actions that need to be taken to deliver on strategic priorities.  

  • Create and manage effective, scalable processes and an operating plan (e.g., recurring meetings, offsites, and huddles) to support team operations. Requires an ability to lead and influence to inject new operational processes to drive executional discipline and excellence. 

  • Work closely with all business units and functions to align operations with strategy. Coordinate with product and business teams to build and execute on strategy. Influence across all levels of the organization and across organizations. 

  • Work with the leadership team and communications team to plan and execute key messages and deliver to internal and external audiences with a high priority on consistent, frequent organizational communications. Communicate plans and execution status for divisional strategic programs. 

  • Lead staff to focus on culture and improving organizational engagement across the organization.

The Successful Candidate will:

  • Demonstrate exceptional communications proficiency, including across functional domains and audience levels (from junior team members to executive and Board committees); must have experience utilizing oral and written communication skills along with presentation skills to support efforts ranging from socializing top-level strategy to organizational change management to ongoing program management

  • Have the ability to multitask across simultaneous projects and priorities, while demonstrating urgency, strong prioritization judgment, and ownership to drive issues to completion

  • Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to be goal/execution-oriented

  • Be able to react seamlessly to change in priorities and delivery focus

  • Be capable of balancing strategy and tactical delivery

  • Execute a strategic approach to all things especially process and operations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 7 years of experience in Project Management, Process Management, or Program Management
