The Monell Chemical Senses Center, founded in 1968, is the world’s first nonprofit scientific institute devoted exclusively to basic research on the chemical senses: taste, smell, and chemosensory irritation. Research at Monell contributes to a wide range of scientific and practical knowledge. With more than forty Ph.D.-level scientists, the Center is making major progress toward understanding how the chemical senses function and their importance in everyday life. The Breslin laboratory at the Monell Chemical Senses Center is seeking a full-time Research Technician to help conduct human taste research.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Preparation of taste stimuli
- Recruitment of human subjects
- Writing experimental protocols and methods
- Testing of human subjects in accordance with NIH guidelines and using appropriate controls for experiments
- Data entry, management and analyses
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (psychology, biology or related science). Prior laboratory experience is valued.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to keep accurate records of the research performed.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and software including MS Office.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory, collaborate with research investigators when erroneous or unexpected results occur.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented individual capable of working independently or as part of a team.
- Preferred experience includes testing humans in perception lab/sensory science and proficiency in statistical analyses, including t-tests, ANOVA and correlation
