The L&D Nurse Manager has 24-hour responsibility for the management, organization, and overall operation of the L&D nursing unit. The Labor & Delivery Nurse Manager guides the staff in this unit to deliver consistent and professional high-quality care to the patients to whom they serve. The manager promotes and endorses the philosophy of the hospital and the Nursing Department by requiring staff under her/his management to provide high quality nursing care adhering to hospital and nursing standards of care, policies, procedure, and protocols. The Labor & Delivery Nurse Manager is responsible for managing the budget of this unit, including the basic development of the budget, predicting revenues and expenditures, and the monthly review and evaluation of the budget. The responsibilities of the Nurse Manager include keeping each unit properly functioning with necessary and functioning equipment and appropriate supplies. In the absence of the Labor & Delivery Nurse Manager, the charge nurse for this unit will assume the 24- hour responsibility for the management of the unit.
