The Volvo Cars App team sits within our Digital organization and is responsible for the development and localization of features and functionality in the Americas region. This includes working with Android based infotainment, Volvo Cars mobile app and our legacy car platforms. Globally, we support the rollout, support & development of new products and services that have a US market specific functionality.

 

As a Mobile App Backend Developer, you would need to have at least 5+ years of experience in architecting and building scalable backend services for consumer facing applications. In this role as a backend developer, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of domestically created (localized) functionality within a globally developed mobile application. Additionally, the team may be approached by other global teams to ensure timely deliveries of market features.

Your primary focus will be the architecture, development, and implementation of back-end services (and associated infrastructure) to be used by our mobile app. Due to your experience you will also provide technical expertise and guidance to peer engineers and developers globally. Working across different organizational layers including the business & global R&D teams, a commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and the creation of quality products is essential.

About You

• You have personally overseen the shipment high quality code to production as part of a team.
• You enjoy tackling interesting, complicated problems and following them through to the end.
• You collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, and designers to break down product requirements and maintain visibility on projects.
• You write clean code and have significant experience with one or more programming languages
• You have expertise on maintaining back-end infrastructure and updating dependencies against vulnerabilities and emerging best practices.
• Built scalable, performant, highly available services and understand the value of a good SLA

 

What You'll Do

• Architect and implement scalable backend systems to support locally developed features and functionality within our Mobile app.
• Align with different teams internally to source data and other necessary integrations in the context of architecture and development of features you’re working with.
• Develop services with attention to metrics & performance monitoring.
• Assist peer engineers with technical issues as they arise and provide ongoing support.

 

Skills

• Hands-On C# or Java Experience
• Spring Boot (Preferred) or ASP .Net Core
• PostgreSQL or similar database experience.
• ORM (JPA or Entity Framework)
• Docker/Kubernetes/Micro-Services
• Development Tools: Github Actions, Argo CD, Jira, Confluence, etc
• Understanding of CI/CD and a SCRUM/AGILE way of working.
• Professional Experience: Minimum 5+ years
