Job Description

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, Outdoors, the Senior Accountant assists the controllership function in our mission of timely and accurate reporting of financial results and ensuring internal controls over financial reporting are designed and operating effectively.  This role will have a focus on cost accounting and general accounting duties across all Outdoors businesses including Larson, Therma-Tru, and Fiberon.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of general accounting experience plus some cost accounting experience in a production/manufacturing environment, strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting, and have experience working with large ERP systems like Oracle, SAP, or Netsuite.

This role can be hybrid-based out of any of our corporate locations: Deerfield, IL (preferred), Maumee, OH, North Olmsted, OH, or Oak Creek, WI.

What you will be doing:

• As a key contributor in the month-end closing process you will:
  • Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions and events in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Create journal entries (JEs) that tie to detail supporting documentation
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations by tying general ledger balance to detailed support
    • Investigate and determine remediation for unreconciled differences
• As a primary contributor to the cost accounting function at the Outdoors BU you will:
  • Determine, record, and report on the monthly excess inventory and obsolescence reserves
  • Summarize the cost implications of standard cost rollups and oversee the rollup process
  • Collaborate with the Sourcing/Procurement function to provide purchase price variance and inflation reporting; partner with leadership to establish appropriate action plans
  • Monthly reconciliation of inventory financial balances to system perpetual balances, including investigation of and adjusting for differences
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs and provide actionable insights to management
• Emphasis on internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment
• Perform assigned tasks, including special projects, analysis, and communication as directed by management
• Support Leadership with ad hoc reporting as needed
• Control owner of several key SOX controls as listed in the SOX risk and Controls Matrix

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar
• 3+ years of general accounting (including some cost accounting experience)
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel)
• Experience working with large ERP systems (i.e. Oracle, SAP, Netsuite)

Nice to Have

• Public Accounting experience
• CPA certification or CPA eligible
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

Additional Information

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $90,000 USD - $100,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range or be above or below the range based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location.  In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance or a role-based sales incentive plan.
