We are seeking a Systems Administrator, with a background in network administration, to build and maintain on-prem solutions within Precision facilities that facilitate and interface with laboratory systems, neural recording stations, manufacturing facilities, and general business processes, to safely and securely accelerate Precision’s critical path.
In this role you will join a cross-disciplinary team of software, mechanical, electrical, materials, bio, and neuroscience engineering teams. You will engage in thoughtful conversations about problems and perfecting designs, while retaining focus on delivering within budget and to deadline.
This position is based five days per week at our fabrication facility in Addison, Texas. We are unable to consider candidates who are not currently based in the United States with working rights.
You will:
- Build on-prem solutions that facilitate and interface with laboratory systems, neural recording stations, manufacturing facilities, and general business processes.
- Collaborate with our diverse user base that includes senior level software engineers, hardware engineers, neuroscientists and medical doctors.
- Work with the rest of our technical team to unify our production systems related to software tools and physical plant.
- Solve immediate problems while designing and prioritizing long term solutions, ensuring safe, effective and secure practices are used.
- Provide tier-2/3 support for challenging technical issues while participating in general IT operations and user support.
Requirements
- 2+ years of systems administration experience on Windows and at least one of Linux or macOS.
- 3+ years of experience managing enterprise-grade firewalls and switches.
- Strong grasp of core networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, ARP, DNS, DHCP, PXE, VLANs, IPSec and wireguard VPNs.
- Solid grasp of IaC tools, such as Git, Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell. Demonstrated history of application of IaC tooling for codification of network and system configuration.
- Strong grasp of modern security architectures and practices, with demonstrable experience applying such principles in development and day-to-day business operations.
- Proficient in shell, Python, or another widely adopted scripting language.
- Demonstrable ability to solve immediate problems while designing and prioritizing long-term systemic solutions.
- Empathetic and patient, especially when collaborating with non-technical colleagues or mentoring teammates!
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience managing and leveraging modern virtualization and containerization technologies, both on-prem and cloud provider solutions.
- Working knowledge of major cryptographic protocols and authentication schemes such as TLS, x509, 802.1x, SAML auth, and FIDO2 standards, including U2F and WebAuthn.
