Senior Research Project Manager

What you will do

In this vital role you will spearhead the creation and integration of Research Therapeutic Area Governance (R-TAG), a key governance forum within Amgen’s commercialization model to enforce stage-appropriate technical readiness, drive operational efficiency, and ensure therapeutic area strategic alignment. This is a highly visible role that involves close collaboration with VPs across a variety of functions in R&D and beyond. Key responsibilities encompass aligning R-TAG activities with broader organizational strategies, ensuring efficient execution of meetings, upholding governance best practices, coordinating R-TAG meetings, and focusing live conversations on the decision at hand. Additionally, the Senior Manager champions project management excellence, and guarantees timely communication and strategic alignment across project teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the R-TAG process from planning to execution, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies to optimize program executions and enhance decision-making.
  • Coordinates with R-TAG co-chairs, setting priorities, aligning agendas, and managing deliverables for seamless integration.
  • Develops strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders, aligning R-TAG activities with Research governance for consistency across communication and operations.
  • Facilitates R-TAG decisions, ensuring effective communication and implementation by downstream functions to drive desired outcomes.
  • Partners with commercialization community to lead R-TAG improvement initiatives, enhancing governance and streamlining decision-making.
  • Organizes R-TAG meetings using Smartsheet, managing agendas, tracking and socializing decisions, and conducting team surveys for efficient execution.
  • Acts as the central contact for communications between Project Teams and R-TAG, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Develops and coordinates key R-TAG presentations, ensuring strategic coherence and effective communication.
  • Guides Project Teams through R-TAG meeting preparation, advising on questions, responses, and aligning presentations with R-TAG expectations.
  • Facilitates transition of R-TAG feedback to Research Governance, ensuring strategic coherence between meetings.
  • Acts as backup to the Research Governance facilitator, ensuring continuity and adherence to governance standards.
  • Applies project management and collaboration tools like MS Teams, SharePoint, and Smartsheet to enhance meeting management and team communication.
  • Demonstrates strong collaborative skills, fostering a culture of commitment and continuous improvement, and mentoring team members.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree & 2 years of technology experience OR
  • Master’s degree & 4 years of technology experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree & 6 years of technology experience OR
  • Associate’s degree and 10 years of technology experience OR
  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of technology experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in biopharmaceutical R&D and drug development.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field with substantial cross-functional leadership experience in governance within the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven expertise in leading complex governance structures and facilitating critical initiatives across diverse operational landscapes
  • Drug development experience including in one or more core drug
