About this role

The Head, Mining Optimization develops mine strategies, benchmarks standards, and pathways to support operational leadership optimize sustainable resource extraction.

Your role will consist of

 

Growth Strategy/Governance    

 

    Develop the mining optimization strategy, standards, guidelines, and tools. 
    Develop performance benchmarks and pathways to create value.
    Develop best practice pathways to achieve optimal resource extraction, minimize waste and optimize capital and resources.
    Provide governance and guidance to maintain effective deployment of the mining optimization plan for decision making and monitoring.
    Enhance value delivery across the operations by rapidly replicating best practice mining methods. 
    Establish and maintain improvement tools and systems to maximize the capability of the discipline.
    Working with the mine subdisciplines, develop integrated plans to optimize the mine value chain, outlining risks and consequences of options.
    Support strategic partnerships with suppliers and professional suppliers, leveraging opportunities.

 

Operations Excellence    

 

    Design an improvement plan for a 2–5-year time frame.
    Align BU priorities to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of mining optimisation opportunities. 
    Support the on- site teams to deliver changes outlined in the annual and medium-term plans.
    Develop tools and processes that provide a user experience that leverages the Newmont approach of right work, right roles undertaken in the right way and place.
    Develop optimal best practice plans and support operational leadership to implement. Includes monitoring performance and technical input into the mining plans.
    Consolidate mining performance at site and country/BUs to provide clarity of performance, challenges, opportunities and sharing of best practice.
    Analyze, interpret, and disseminate information to drive mining operational excellence.

Drive safety and sustainability improvements through deployment of new systems and technologies that are authorised, sustainable, safe, and productive.

 

People     

 

    Lead a team of technical experts responsible for mining improvement activities.
    Develop technical knowledge and skill capabilities, providing feedback and coaching on performance and career development to the Managers and MORs within the operations.
    Engage inclusively, leaving everyone feeling valued and enabled to contribute so we drive value creation.
    Influence site and regional leaders, to accept and embrace and implement optimization programmes.

Knowledge    

 

    B.Sc in Mining Engineering
    Mine operations - experienced operational leader in mining industry and have had experience as Operational General Manager
    Mine technologies, tools, control systems
    Trends and value of differing control center configurations
    Underground & Surface Mine design and planning
    Drill & Blast- Underground and Surface
    Load and Haul practices and benchmarks
    Project Management fundamentals

 

Technical Skills    

 

    Advanced proficiency in practical aspects of day to day mine operations, within either surface and/ or underground to enable value add support to the site GM and operational teams.
    Advanced proficiency in taking methodologies, and technologies into the operations, understanding the impact and challenges of these changes upon many parts of the asset including social, sustainability and safety. 
    Advanced proficiency in mining operations including setting performance benchmarks for each component analysis and designing optimization activities.
