Senior Medical Assistant - Roswell Park Care Network

 Roswell Park Care Network is looking to hire a full-time Senior Medical Assistant to work at our busy Williamsville, NY location. 

The Senior Medical Assistant will provide oversight and training to the team of medical assistants within the assigned practice. The senior medical assistant will support the coverage assignments for the medical assistant team as well as support, as a working member of the team, the preparation of charts for upcoming patient appointments, obtain vitals, patient intake. The senior medical assistant directly supports the provider team during office hours so that patients are treated in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner. 

Brief Description of Duties:

• Provides direct supervision of the medical assistant team with the assigned practice. 
• Provides initial training and mentorship of new hire medical assistants. 
• Supports practice/nurse management to ensure that new hire medical assistants are able to fulfil the daily requirements of the medical assistant position and actively participate in the core competency and annual performance evaluation process in   collaboration with practice/nurse management. 
• Ensures that the medical assistant   coverage schedule and daily assignments are complete within adequate timeframes to ensure that the clinic runs efficiently
• Completes chart prep 24-48 hours prior to patient appointment to ensure chart is complete with notes, pathology report, test results, medications, allergies, etc.
• Timely and accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Maintain confidentiality of all current and former patients/charts as required by clinic policy and governing laws
• Follow proper protocol for securing  workstation when walking away
• Document in the EMR using only your assigned login
• Escorts patients to exam room, obtain vitals, updates patient history, reconciles medications, allergies, and any required quality data
• Provides patient with orders, education and medication instructions as directed by Provider when asked
• Cleans and prepares exam rooms for each patient
• Empties hazardous waste receptacles when full
• Complete venipuncture as ordered by provider following all safety guidelines including identifying the patient by verifying date of birth
• Identify and properly label all specimen tubes for testing
• Input lab orders per medical provider
• Follows up on Electronic Medical Record documents routed to him/her by the Providers
• Accurately and efficiently respond to tasks received from providers and other office staff
• Must adhere to policies, procedures and regulations as outlined in the office policy and procedures manual
• Interact with fellow workers in a way  that promotes a harmonious and cooperative working environment
• Be expected to utilize spare time in work related activities which contribute to the clinic's needs 
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested 

Requirements

• Successful completion of an  accredited medical office assistant education program or phlebotomy program
• Minimum 1 year experience as Senior Medical Assistant or other related supervisory experience.
• High School diploma or G.E.D. and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time clinical or administrative health care experience
• Onco and/or Medent EMR experience a Plus!
