Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. Our Baton Rouge, LA office is seeking an entry or junior level Commercial Diver / Technician. As the successful commercial diver, you will be working with a professional engineering dive/bridge inspection team that provides consulting services to clients primarily in the gulf region. The principal function of this position is to be part of a team that evaluates marine and bridge structures through above and below water engineering inspections. When not delivering inspections, you will help prepare reports, and maintain dive equipment and field locker. If interested, you will be offered training to join our rope access (SPRAT) bridge inspection team. We perform these inspections for states (department of transportation), municipalities, private clients, marine terminal operators, oil and gas / LNG plants, the US Navy and many more!

Duties and responsibilities: 

  • Conduct underwater and topside structural inspections under supervision in a team environment 
  • Identify elements, analyze deterioration according to appropriate standards, assess remaining sections, and report findings in a diligent manner
  • Assist with the preparation to mobilize dive equipment, inspect and maintain dive equipment as directed and manage overall condition of the dive locker as needed
  • Monitor equipment and procedures to ensure compliance with safety procedures
  • Research and prepare safety and field documents prior to field work 
  • Prepare or assist in preparation of reports including data entry, text writing and photo editing post field work
  • Drive trucks over 10,000 lbs., tow trailers, and operate vessels as platforms to safely facilitate structural inspections
  • Maintain personal diving records and ensure proper filing for company reference
  • Communicate regularly with other professionals and departments for best practices at each job site
  • Work collaboratively with the equipment managers
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications: 

  • ADCI or equivalent dive certification including: HSE, DCBC, IMCA and ADAS
  • Entry to 4 years of related diving and underwater structural inspection experience including timber, concrete and/or steel is strongly preferred
  • Possession or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • FHWA-NHI-130091 is a plus
  • Prior experience related to equipment or mechanical maintenance preferred
  • Construction inspection or general construction experience a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Software proficiency with Microsoft products 
  • Availability to perform field work from 6 am to 2 pm
  • Ability and willingness to travel regionally if required
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing
  • Boating and trailing experience preferred
  • Boater Safety Card preferred 
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and Oxygen Administration certification required
  • Selected candidate must consent to and a pass a post-off/pre-employment drug screening
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete
