About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated Associate General Counsel to work on Meta’s Central Security Legal Team, based in the United States and with a remit to support security, safety, integrity, product, regulatory and privacy equities worldwide. - Identify and advise business and product partners on legal obligations globally relating to data disclosure, platform safety and integrity, including child safety and other serious crimes.
- Provide security, safety, integrity and privacy legal guidance on a wide range of product developments, including private messaging products, e-commerce/payments related products, AR/VR products, and business products.
- Provide advice and support the processing of legal requests for user data, and manage the litigation of matters implicating user data preservation and disclosure in criminal and civil matters.
- Develop and implement effective policies for processing legal requests and protecting user data.
- Develop strategic approaches to managing regulatory, criminal and policy legal risks and resolving disputes.
- Work closely with the company’s safety and security teams to protect the people who use our service from abuse.
- Support legal and public policy teams’ engagement with regulators and legislators on safety and security policy.
- Collaborate with members of Public Policy, Legal, Community Operations, Product, Engineering and others on safety and security matters.
- Manage effective relationships with key government agencies, regulators, and law enforcement agencies, in close collaboration with internal cross-functional teams.
- J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent).
- Active membership in at least one US state bar and eligibility to obtain registered in-house counsel status (if required by the State Bar in the assigned work location).
- 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in-house or government experience.
- Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Experience managing and handling legal and regulatory issues.
- Experience advising technology or telecommunications companies as in-house or outside counsel on regulatory, safety and security matters, investigations, policy and/or criminal process.
- Experience with U.S. law, particularly the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute.
- Experience with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, Stored Communications Act, General Data Protection Regulation, and and other analogous U.S. and international laws.
- Experience providing guidance to providers in responding to law enforcement requests and regulatory requests.
- Experience with Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty requests, Letters Rogatory, or other forms of international cooperation.
- Understanding of major EU laws regarding data disclosure and content moderation, including familiarity with the European General Data Protection Regulation.
- Criminal and civil litigation experience.
