We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Sr. Manager of Mechanical Systems Engineering within our Engineering team to help support our Home Furniture business. As a Sr. Manager of Mechanical Systems Engineering you will have the opportunity to lead the design and system integration activities of mechanical systems in a global product development environment. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by guiding engineering teams through the development of innovative products in a cross functional team structure. - Accountable for people management of global engineering teams including resource/capacity planning, project assignments, and talent development.
- Accountable for team completing assigned tasks, deliverables, and working in a matrix/network organization. Provide leadership fostering cross-functional teamwork, globally.
- Accountable for the design and implementation of global product development engineering systems & processes in conjunction with the Electrical and Project engineering teams.
- Ensure integration of mechanical and electrical solutions meet design criteria with Electrical & Project Engineering teams. Foster environment that drives the level of detail our key customers require.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and encourage a growth mindset for our global team.
- Drive design thinking, consumer product development skills, needs identification, and similar activities for global team.
- Accountable for activities that ensure designs meet compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Foster the exploration and implementation of new design solutions, technologies, and materials. Partner with the R&D team for new technology development and introduction.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal and external customers. Foster environment that builds strong partnerships.
- Deliver mechanical systems technology and platform development roadmaps with Category Management team for business unit product portfolio. Establish technical design strategy and implement plans in conjunction with Electrical and Project Engineering leadership.
- Drive intellectual property activity to protect new innovation and optimize patent related investments. Partner with Electrical Engineering, Project Engineering, and corporate legal resources to accomplish.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing, IE[JS1] )
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; preferred experience in design work, leadership, project management and/or similar space
- Experience leading technical teams; people management required
- Experience translating design requests into actionable, technical requirements for mechanical system design
- Experience working with multi-disciplinary cross functional teams to analyze data and drive decision making
- Experience working with suppliers on component and system development
- Strong collaboration skills: ability to interface with cross-functional team including engineers, sales teams, project managers, and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication
- Experience working with multi-disciplinary cross functional teams, understanding objectives, and leading the work resources to accomplish the objectives
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
