integral member of theinterdisciplin ary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. TheMedical Assista nt, Certified performs routine administrative and patientcare supportive duties in a Health System medical practice thatassistmedical and/ornurs ing staff in the examination and treatment ofpatients and ensure the cli nic/office runs smoothly.



Work Performed

Clin ical responsibilities:The CMA takes medical histories and records vital signs, explainstreatment procedures to patients, and prepares patients f orexaminationsand procedures.Patient caresupport responsibilities may in clude assisting the medicaland nursing staff during examination and proc edures, collecting andpreparing laboratory specimens, performing basic l aboratory test in theclinic/office, taking electrocardiograms, removingsutures/ staples,changing sterile and non-sterile dressings, promoting p atient/familyunderstanding ofthe educational content and his/her involve ment in theplan of care, and documenting in the patient record.Other cli nical support responsibilities includedisposing ofcontaminated supplies, instrument processing, high level disinfectionand sterilization of medic al instruments, telephoning prescriptions to apharmacy, preparing and ad ministering medications as directed by aphysician, and authorizing drugr efills as directed. Performs otherclinical functions as delegated andsup ervised by the physician.Administrative responsibilities:The CMA greets patients, answers telephones, schedules appointments toinclude arriveapp ointments in MaestroCare, checkoutpatients, andreferral scheduling;arran ges for hospital admissions andlaboratoryservices, updates and files pat ient medical records, fills outinsuranceforms, handles billing, bookkeep ing to include receiving copays andcollections on account balances;corre spondence, and ordering clinicaland clerical supplies and forms. Piaison for clinic activities suchas JointCommission and falls and/or parerform s other administrative dutiesasdirected.May be requested to be a lticipa te in clinic committees.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</h3 >

Good customer service skills.Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and writteninstructions generally acquired through a hi gh school education andmedical assistant programming.Heavy liftingand the ability to transport stretcher and wheelchairpatients may be required. Working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that area pplicable to work performed.Working knowledge of procedures and techniqu es involved in administeringroutineand special treatments to patients.W orking knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic healthandsafe ty precautions applicablefor work in a clinic setting. Workingknowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.Age specific competencies.Daily clinic preparation process; registration, scheduling, cha rgeposting, order entry.Able to document and communicate pertinentinform ationAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships w ithpatients and clinicstaffTyping skillsMedical terminologyLevels II and III -- Ability to independently seek out resources andwork collaborativ ely

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Level I -- Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Level II -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP
