Job Description
A Presales Engineering Manager will be expected to be a dynamic, influential, and facilitative leader who will lead the Presales Engineering team as we pursue opportunities within the US Federal Government Department of Defense (DOD) Markets.
The DOD Presales Engineering Team includes a broad range of Presales Engineers from experienced to new hire to interns. These engineers are supporting Customer RFPs, and Budgetary Estimate proposals, Proof of Concept trials, Engineering Tools development, Spectrum Policy, and are Trusted Advisors within the US Federal Government DOD market.
You will be responsible for working closely with the Sales Team to deliver customer-driven, world-class, leading-edge, end-to-end solutions that rise to the challenges of first responder, government, and non first responder customers in any area the US DOD operates.
You will hire, develop, and coach your team of Presales Engineers through Performance Management processes in a way that prepares them for a long and successful career as a high performing professional within Motorola Solutions.
Your team concentrates on the following mission-critical communications technologies at various levels of complexity:
- Public safety grade mobile voice and data networks
- Advanced mobile devices
- Public safety mobile broadband networks and devices (LTE)
- Integrated command and control: 9-1-1 Dispatch Consoles.

The ideal candidate has the following skills and capabilities:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Cloud, Networking, RF, Wireless Communications, Sales Engineering, Systems Integration, or Customer Interface
- A positive attitude with a can-do first approach that enables you to be creative, resourceful and deliver results
- Strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to present complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences and makes them understandable
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Willingness to think out of the box and challenge the status quo
- Attention to detail and a flawless execution mindset
- Strong general knowledge of wireless communications fundamentals and voice/data architectures - both public and private (e.g. APCO P25, LTE, 802.11, 3GPP 4G/5G, FirstNet/Frontline) highly desirable
- Strong general knowledge of Cloud (FEDRAMP), IP networking architecture, protocols and security highly desirable
- Knowledge of RF coverage predictions, microwave design, traffic/capacity modeling, and related toolsets is an asset
- Travel Expected < 25%
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint
