SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for providing general nursing care to patients and will strive to provide these services in a compassionate, professional, ethical, and knowledgeable fashion. The role will include, but is not limited to: the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patients’ status, plan of care, and goal achievement. The Registered Nurse understands and is aware of the potential exposure to internal and external hazardous materials including but not limited to: blood and blood borne pathogens, infectious/communicable diseases, noise, excessive physical injury from patients, airborne dusts, fumes, and gases.
Essential Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Clinic Manager, the Registered Nurse performs a variety of complex, professional, analytical, and confidential medical services. Duties include:
- Perform all nursing duties in accordance with the state Nursing Act specific to the state you are working in, while adhering to all facility policies and procedures.
- Monitor patient progress and identifies any changes in status, acting on those changes to insure patient comfort and safety.
- Assist physicians and all healthcare professionals caring for patient, always giving a complete and thorough report on patient status at end of shift/assignment.
- Perform routine nursing care to assigned patients, while utilizing age specific and universal precaution practices at all times.
- Must be able to perform various sensory requirements such as; vision, speech, smell, touch, manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and hearing in order to assess and treat the patient accurately.
- Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
- Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient.
- Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
- Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
- Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.
- Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instruction.
- Rotates among various clinical services of institution such as obstetrics, surgery, orthopedics, outpatient and admitting, pediatrics, and psychiatry.
- Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgery.
- Assists in surgery by handing items to Surgeon, Obstetrician, or other medical practitioner.
- Makes beds, bathes and feeds patients.
- Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities.
- Must be able to work at all applicable locations.
- Availability to work all operational hours as needed.
- Other tasks and projects as assigned by supervisor, manager and/or director.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Attends workshops, training, and meetings as needed, and as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
