Western Alliance is seeking a Business Controls Governance Senior Manager. This role is aligned to the Business Controls and Testing Department (BCT) Governance team who are accountable for implementing an effective risk and controls governance program within the first line of defense. This role will lead and support process improvements and oversight of risk-taking activities throughout the Company. The Business Controls Senior Manager will be working closely with internal BCT partners, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Operational Risk Management (ORM) and other second lines of defense teams, and risk liaisons throughout the Company.
The successful candidate will be a motivated team player who has expertise in executive and enterprise reporting, and program development and management; is a self-starter who is accustomed to working in fast-paced, complex, evolving organizations with diverse stakeholders; and an agile individual who is able to withstand challenges and adapt quickly with an execution mindset.
What we are looking for:
Responsibilities:
- Support BCT Director of Governance in governance operational management activities.
- Lead as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert for BCT and 1LOD business partners; establishing oneself as a single point of contact for governance related matters.
- Assume ownership and manage all aspects of BCT department governance reporting processes. Including:
- Deliver comprehensive analysis of risk and control 1LOD activities results and key metrics of the business unit to leadership. Leverage internal and external comparable as required to contextualize current performance.
- Understand the impact of unusual items that skew the interpretation of the true performance relative to prior period(s), current state and forecasts.
- Investigate results that do not align with expectations and share insights on appropriate corrective action.
- Create presentations for executive management that effectively communicates key messages and insights.
- Effectively communicate with enterprise teams to identify data needs and develop standardized Board, Committee and Management reporting.
- Demonstrate high level of intellectual curiosity as it relates to performance drivers of first line of defense business(es) data to aggregate disparate pieces of information into cohesive messaging.
- Continuously improve governance processes and reporting by transforming data into actionable and value-added metrics and analysis that is packaged into an easily consumable format. Effectively leverage both risk related and non-risk related data sources to convey a full-color picture of performance.
- Proactively engage with BCT partner and business units to identify solutions to support business needs, strategic planning and emerging risk identification.
- Maintain and control BCT programs data and reporting. Reporting will be for all levels of the Bank from business line management to the Board of Directors.
- Manage department change events and drive cross-team collaboration.
- Participate in developing and enhancing the first line of defense standards for risk management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10+ years experience in Risk Management, Audit, Operations Management, Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience in banking, specifically risk management or financial reporting, and executive reporting highly preferred
- Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence senior management
- Superior attention to detail and ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining a view of the big picture
- Demonstrated analytical skills required
- Excellent Excel and PowerPoint knowledge required
- Proficient in MS office including Teams and working knowledge of Access
- Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools is beneficial (e.g., Tableau, MS Power BI, SQL, SAS or equivalents) and Workfront, Workiva, GRC tools
- Industry certifications such as CPA, CISSP, CISM, CISA, or CRISC a plus
