Summary
The Registered Nurse 4 position falls within the Support Section of the Louisiana State Police. More specifically, the position is held within the Training Academy under the supervision of the Medical Coordinator, a commissioned Lieutenant. The Registered Nurse 4 (RN4) conducts early “sick call” visits for the cadets attending the rigorous, physical State Police Academy. This includes conducting assessments, making clinical decisions, and providing interventions to treat a variety of pathology along with acting as a vital role in the continuity of care. The necessity of this position is critical in the multiple operations of the Training Academy. The ultimate goal in staffing this position is to promote healthy training and a safe work environment, leading to a reduction in sickness and injury.

Examples of duties
Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:Two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A bachelor's degree in nursing plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A master's degree in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A doctorate in nursing or public health.

Job Duties:
The Registered Nurse 4 (RN4) conducts early “sick call” visits for the cadets attending the rigorous, physical State Police Academy. This includes conducting assessments, making clinical decisions, and providing interventions to treat a variety of pathology along with acting as a vital role in the continuity of care. Additionally, the RN4 is responsible for transporting cadets to medically necessary appointments of State Police’s various healthcare partners, and covering training conducted off-site such as JESTC to treat emergency conditions that may arise. Further, it is the responsibility of the RN4 to conduct medical stand-by at State Police in-service training to mitigate any emergency conditions that may arise along with teaching blood-borne pathogens. Lastly, the RN4 also provides medical stand-by for pre-hire physical assessments to alleviate any medical issues that may occur.
