The Sydney Pharmacy School is recognised as one of the leading centres for pharmacy research in the world. Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from medication management to co-design, as well as from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.  

The University of Sydney has a fantastic opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team as a Senior Research Officer on a large research project funded by the Federal Government. Decision making at a local level is required, following University policy and working under guidelines established with the CIs. There is discretion to innovate within those guidelines and to take responsibility for outcomes. Working with the project team across multiple states and territories, the Senior Research Officer will use considerable knowledge and sound judgement in determining whether matters arising can be dealt with personally or referred up. This role holder works autonomously within the accountabilities outlined, making decisions that are appropriate to University policy and procedure, liaising with the CIs. The Research Officer requires a high level of problem solving and strong interpersonal skills.

The MH-SPACE trial aims to establish Mental Health Safe spaces in community Pharmacies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consumers by Educating the primary care workforce in Mental Health First Aid. MH-SPACE involves co-design of a culturally safe mental

health training program for community pharmacists and evaluation of this training program through

a randmised controlled trial and self-audit of provision of mental health support, first aid and referral in community pharmacy. MH-SPACE will involve simulated patient (SP) visits across study regions in NSW, NT and WA.

This position is funded under the MRFF Indigenous Health Research grant. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. This Exemption is claimed under Section 21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• provide expert project management support and advice to contribute to the strategic planning and successful establishment of the research project;

• collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive and accurate project plans that ensure consistency and alignment with project objectives;

• efficiently coordinate the logistical aspects of the research projects, while effectively managing project teams’ performance and resource allocation;

• generate detailed project activity reports and proactively implement necessary changes, consistent progress towards milestones and timely delivery of project deliverables;

• develop and implement robust project governance procedures to effectively monitor project stakeholders, while implementing strategic communication plans to ensure stakeholders are informed and engaged;

• contribute to the presentation and dissemination of project findings; and,

• undertake other duties and projects appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

To be successful in this role, you have:

• tertiary qualifications (e.g. higher degree by research) in a relevant field is highly desirable;

• clinical experience in a relevant field (e.g., pharmacy, psychology, or relevant health discipline) is highly desirable;

• experience in conducting and disseminating research (e.g., preparation of ethics protocols, preparing written reports and contributing to manuscripts) is highly desirable;

• excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day to day operational matters;

• experience managing or collaborating with multiple internal and external stakeholders;

• experience monitoring and tracking budgets and expenditure; and,

• proven experience in project coordination.
