NorthStar Memorial Group is seeking an Assistant Funeral Home Manager for Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary in San Diego, CA, a high-volume, historic location serving families with compassion and excellence. This role is built for a leader who can strengthen structure, support the mortuary department, and guide a team with clarity, accountability, and emotional intelligence.
Responsibilities
- Direct and lead funeral home operations, ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery and alignment with NorthStar standards
- Plan and oversee community-facing events, including holiday ceremonies, state memorial observances, and outreach visits to churches, hospitals, nursing homes, and community centers
- Achieve annual goals, ensuring growth through effective expense management and operational oversight
- Select, train, coach, and motivate funeral home staff to ensure service exceeds family expectations and supports professional development
- Build trusted relationships within the community to educate and support families with at-need funeral decisions
- Develop and maintain strong community partnerships to establish a reliable and sustainable referral network
- Lead and cultivate a cooperative team environment that is respectful, communicative, accountable, and service-oriented
- Provide day-to-day leadership and coordination across the mortuary department and supporting teams, ensuring smooth workflow and timely service
- Assist the Mortuary Manager in planning and executing community outreach initiatives and strategic projects
- Ensure smooth office operations through strong organizational oversight, effective problem-solving, and proactive process improvement
- Support the Care Center and Crematory by collaborating with department leaders to uphold compliance, maintain operational readiness, and ensure dignified, timely preparation, handling, and cremation of decedents
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the funeral profession, including conducting at-need funeral arrangements with families
- At least 2 years of management or leadership experience; funeral profession leadership strongly preferred
- Valid California Funeral Director License required
- Valid California Embalmer License required
- Preferred Crematory Operator experience
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service, with a proactive, solutions-focused approach and a genuine desire to help others
- Strong professional communication and leadership abilities, with the capacity to guide, coach, and hold staff accountable
- Proven conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills, especially in emotionally sensitive or high-stress situations
- Excellent customer relations, consistently seeking opportunities to support families and improve their experience
Compensation
- $77K-$87K, Depending on experience
