Summary
Lead Project Inspector, under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Works, inspects engineered construction as to quality of materials and construction, ensures and maintains good construction practice. This role ensures construction complies with plans and technical specifications and maintains good public relations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform on-site inspections of infrastructure construction including water and sewer lines, streets, and storm drainage
• Coordinate and schedule with testing firms and reviews test reports
• Reviews permits and performs inspections for compliance with drainage and erosion/sedimentation control per City of Temple Drainage Criteria and Design Manual (DCM)
• Makes site visits in response to citizen’s concerns (drainage, erosion, water/sewer, etc.) and prepares PowerPoint presentation with photograph to provide an assessment of situation to City staff
• Reviews plans for infrastructure construction and ensures construction complies with approved plans/specification and meets City of Temple codes
• Performs design and plat reviews when requested
• Maintains thorough project documentation, including daily logs, photographic records, and electronic files, while also verifying items against monthly project estimates
• Communicates with engineers, City Departments, contractors, and developers
• Assists supervisor in coordinating inspectors and reporting on project status
• Checks and interprets plans and specifications, reviews cut sheets and ensures construction is done accordingly
• Sets up and inspects materials installed, prepares, and sets up for hydrostatic, purity, pressure, sub-grade base/asphalt gradation and density tests
• Follows the city policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering technology or related field
• Five (5) years of experience in construction or related field
Preferred Qualifications
• Professionally recognized (APWA, AWWA, ASCE, etc.) certification in the inspection of public works infrastructure
Certificates and Licenses
• Valid driver’s license
