Senior Engineer - Insider Threat

GEICO is seeking an experienced Insider Threat Senior Engineer with a passion for building and implementing high performance, low-latency platforms, and applications. You will support our tech teams in their transformation of the insurance business to ensure security remains at the forefront of all GEICO programs and products.

Position Description:

Our Insider Threat Senior Engineer will oversee the design and implementation of comprehensive security strategies to mitigate and manage insider threats. This individual will work closely with our cybersecurity team, other technical teams, and business stakeholders to develop advanced insider threat systems and procedures. The ideal candidate is a thought leader on our cybersecurity team, advising on matters of technical architecture and providing guidance in the development of advanced systems to detect, prevent, and mitigate insider threats.

Position Responsibilities

As a Senior Engineer, you will:

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive insider threat program that integrates technical and non-technical components

• Collaborate with cybersecurity analysts and engineers to develop and refine insider threat detection capabilities

• Guide the technical architecture of insider threat systems, ensuring alignment with the organization's security and business goals

• Work closely with business and IT stakeholders to identify critical assets and potential threat vectors

• Evaluate and recommend security technologies to improve the organization's insider threat posture

• Define security controls and metrics to measure the effectiveness of the insider threat program

• Train and mentor junior staff members, fostering a culture of security awareness within the organization

• Stay abreast of emerging trends in the cybersecurity landscape and update our strategies accordingly

Qualifications:

• Expert understanding of various cybersecurity and insider threat concepts, protocols, and tools

• Strong knowledge of data protection and privacy regulations

• Proficient in at least one programming or scripting language such as Java, Python, .NET, JavaScript, or C++

• Experience in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Perl, or Bash

• Exceptional leadership, communication, and presentation skills

• Ability to influence across multiple organizational levels, demonstrating a strategic mindset

One or more of the following Cybersecurity certifications are highly desired:

• Security+

• Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP)

• Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)

• Elastic Certification

• CERT Insider Threat

• Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)

Experience:

• 4+ years of experience in cybersecurity, particularly in roles focusing on insider threat detection and mitigation

• 3+ year of experience in designing and implementing complex cybersecurity architectures

• 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service 

• 2+ years of experience in open-source frameworks  

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
