Scientific Director, Oligonucleotide Chemistry Research
Neurocrine BiosciencesAbout the role
Who We Are:
At Neurocrine Biosciences, we pride ourselves on having a strong, inclusive, and positive culture based on our shared purpose and values. We know what it takes to be great, and we are as passionate about our people as we are about our purpose - to relieve suffering for people with great needs.
What We Do:
Neurocrine Biosciences is a leading neuroscience-focused, biopharmaceutical company with a simple purpose: to relieve suffering for people with great needs. We are dedicated to discovering and developing life-changing treatments for patients with under-addressed neurological, neuroendocrine and neuropsychiatric disorders. The company's diverse portfolio includes FDA-approved treatments for tardive dyskinesia, chorea associated with Huntington's disease, classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia, endometriosis* and uterine fibroids,* as well as a robust pipeline including multiple compounds in mid- to late-phase clinical development across our core therapeutic areas. For three decades, we have applied our unique insight into neuroscience and the interconnections between brain and body systems to treat complex conditions. We relentlessly pursue medicines to ease the burden of debilitating diseases and disorders because you deserve brave science. About the Role:
The Scientific Director, Oligonucleotide Chemistry Research is a highly motivated and accomplished chemist/biochemist with a proven track record of success in delivering multiple oligonucleotide-based candidate molecules to the clinical development candidate stage. The ideal candidate will be a leader in the field of siRNA chemistry and design, and a people leader with a passion for mentoring and empowering their team. The candidate will lead projects in a fast-paced environment and play a key role in providing strategic direction for next-generation oligonucleotide-based therapeutics for our three therapeutic areas of interest: neurology, neuroendocrinology, and neuroimmunology._
Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
Set scientific direction for siRNA platform chemistry and direct internal and external chemists tasked with designing, synthesizing and characterizing novel oligonucleotides, associated libraries, and oligonucleotide-based bioconjugates for eventual development candidate nomination
Provide strategic direction, oversight and input for multiple siRNA-based projects including the chemistry strategy, bioconjugation strategy where applicable, and overall goals and timelines
Help set scientific direction for use of siRNA, ASO, and associated oligonucleotide-based modalities
Participate in and/or lead multiple discovery projects and project teams
Drive the development and incorporation of novel technologies, methods and oligonucleotide modifications for optimal stability, potency and selectivity
Collaborate seamlessly with the adjacent Bioconjugation team as well as the Peptide, Antibody and Small Molecule teams to achieve maximal synergy between the teams and platforms
Collaborate closely with the broader research team by communicating results, sharing insights, making plans, and setting goals in an open and collaborative way to enable project success
