Position Summary
Academic Nursing Advisors provide academic advising for graduate nursing students in their respective program, as well as participating in student recruiting activities. They must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and maintain a schedule that includes being available evenings and weekends as needed. Reports to Graduate Nursing Program Director. Some travel is required. Required to be on campus five days a week.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment
- Participates in recruiting events on and off campus. Working closely with the Graduate Nursing Admissions counselor.
- Meets with prospective students, responds to inquiries, and provides program curriculum information.
- Assists with program orientations involving faculty and other staff members.
Advising and Retention
- Serves as an academic advisor for graduate nursing students in their respective programs.
- Assists advisees with course registration when needed and also work with them in the decision-making process in order to ensure their progression plans are aligned with their academic goals and nursing progression policies and procedures.
- Communicates with students routinely through emails, face-to-face encounters, zoom and telephone meetings.
- Communicates routinely with graduate nursing director and faculty regarding student concerns.
- Ensures students are registered for appropriate classes according to the curriculum schedule and collaborates with graduate nursing director to resolve schedule conflicts that hinder student progression.
- Participates in individual and group meetings to discuss curriculum and semester schedule planning according to progression policy.
- Monitors grades and absenteeism as reported by program faculty and advises students as needed.
- Adheres to program policies of the respective nursing program.
- Advises students on academic policies, practices and available support services when necessary.
- Collaborates with admissions staff to ensure seamless transition into program.
- Uses a Christ-centered framework when advising students.
- Collaborates with graduate nursing director to communicate with students regarding academic status and progression within the program.
- Facilitate meetings between graduate program director, faculty and student when there are academic and or professionalism issues with a student.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Special Projects/ Data management
- Documents all communication in Navigate or other student success engagement system.
- Maintains retention/attrition records.
- Collects data as assigned by the graduate nursing director.
- Maintains and updates nursing student files in Navigate and other University systems.
Assisting Dean, Program Directors, & Program Coordinators
- Works closely with the graduate nursing director and dean of the school of nursing to monitor enrollment data, course availability, and communicates issues in a timely manner
- Assist in developing course schedules by academic year.
- Create Course numbers each academic year in CLSS system
- Monitor courses for low enrollment and submit VLE forms and documentation where needed.
- Assist in completing School Surveys (i.e. AACN, WLN, CCNE, & US News and World Reports.)
- Reviews marketing brochures and website for program detail accuracy.
- All other duties as assigned
- Ability to stand for extended periods while representing the university at recruitment events, college fairs, information sessions, and other activities supporting Admissions and School of Nursing recruitment efforts.
- Ability to travel to on- and off-campus recruitment events and other work-related locations as needed.
