Job Description

Team: System & Advanced Engineering is responsible for mechatronic and control system development for combustion engine, hybrid, electric, and fuel cell powertrains. We work with vehicle manufacturers and internal business groups to industrialize proof-of-concepts for advanced powertrain systems.

Mitigation of Vehicle Emissions (PN / PM / Cold Start)

  1. The internship will focus on 3D simulation of the mixture preparation process in the engine, resulting in a quantitative assessment of fuel wall film formation and subsequent soot formation
  2. The intern will contribute by validating CFD models using measurement data from engine dyno tests and develop optimized spray targetings to improve mixture preparation and mitigate PN emission.
  3. This internship will be a direct contribution to the global advanced injector development initiative

E-Machine and Fuel Cell Simulations

  1. The internship will also include the simulation of various flow components of Electric Motor/Machine and Bipolar plate of a PEM fuel cell
  2. The intern will contribute towards the validation studies for simulations vs available measurements

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar discipline with strong interest in engine & powertrain simulation
  2. Existing experience working with 3D simulation tools such as AVL Fire, Converge etc.
  3. Ability to work independently
  • Minimum of overall GPA of at least 3.0
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Preferred Skills and Background:

  1. Doctoral (PhD) student in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar discipline with strong interest in engine & powertrain simulation
  2. Experience with IC engine testing
  3. Experience with 1D simulation tool GT-Power
