Teaching Assistant Professor - Business Analytics

The Department of Economics and Business at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2024. The position is non-tenure-track with the opportunity for future promotion through the ranks of teaching faculty.

We are looking to hire a new faculty member whose primary expertise is in business analytics, operations research, or industrial engineering. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses in the Business Engineering and Management Science BS program and the Engineering and Technology Management MS program. Courses may include descriptive analytics, stochastic modeling, predictive analytics, optimization modeling, marketing analytics, simulation, and a capstone research course. Further, the new faculty member will be expected to collaborate effectively in curriculum development, innovative pedagogy, and other departmental service. The standard teaching assignment for Mines teaching faculty is 3 courses per semester. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are highly desirable. Candidates must exhibit the potential and desire to be involved in the improvement of our degree programs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver course materials in traditional, online, and hybrid modalities demonstrating teaching excellence.
• Develop and deliver course materials using a variety of analytical software (i.e. python, excel, etc.) to undergraduate and graduate students demonstrating teaching excellence of high-quality and impact.
• Contribute both institutionally and professionally through active service.
• Cultivate and promote an inclusive and diverse Mines community through recruiting, mentorship, and service.
• Collaborate across campus representing the department.

Minimum Qualifications

• M.S. plus at least 3 years of relevant industry experience in Business Analytics, Operations Management, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or closely related field from an accredited program by the time the appointment begins.
• Successful record of college-level teaching experience.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching and curriculum development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Business Analytics, Operations Management, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or closely related field from an accredited program by the time the appointment begins.
• Successful record of college-level teaching in descriptive analytics, stochastic modeling, predictive analytics, optimization modeling, and simulation.
• Experience with capstone analytics courses that engage students with industry partners to work on real-world business problems.
• Established record of service.
