SUMMARY
Perform a variety of maintenance and repair functions of shop equipment, office and transit centers, facility parking lots, park and ride lots, and bus stops and signs.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The individual in this position is expected to be fully competent in the skill area and perform independently and proficiently those assignments of an ongoing nature. Work is performed under the general direction of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and Lead Facility Maintenance Worker, who may review work and provide instructions to solve unusual problems.
Responsible to assure thoroughness and quality to prevent potential liabilities for equipment related accidents and to see that work is performed in accordance with sound safety practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following summarizes the essential or key responsibilities/attributes of the position the incumbent will be required to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:
Operate vehicles such as transit coaches and support vehicles as authorized and necessary to accomplish primary responsibilities.
Monitor security of assigned equipment and facilities. Report unusual conditions to supervisor or police department as conditions warrant.
Service shop equipment, bus washer, and steam cleaner. Maintain fluid levels as required for maintenance equipment. Use cutting and welding equipment to repair broken or damaged shop equipment.
Perform all phases of maintenance of C-TRAN’s buildings and facilities, including miscellaneous carpenter work.
Perform grounds work, including lawn mowing, edging, weeding, trimming, and fertilizing at C‑TRAN's main facility, transit centers, and as required at bus stops and park and ride lots.
Maintain bus stop signs, which includes installing and replacing as necessary.
Perform shelter rebuilding and/or replacement.
Perform concrete work; primarily shelter pads and retaining walls.
Perform intermediate to advanced electrical wiring, repair, and replace cords, motors, and wall plugs.
Prepare surfaces, tape, and paper all phases of painting from curb striping to walls and offices, using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
Remove, replace and/or repair plumbing fixtures, and unclog plugged drains.
Fabricate needed items, such as brackets, bench seats, storage racking, and other specialty items.
Move office furniture when needed.
Perform a variety of tasks during Adverse Weather events such as operating snowplows, sanding, snow blowing, and de-icing equipment; chaining buses and assisting disabled equipment; removing snow from passenger areas; and operating water/chemical trucks, tractors, and loaders.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Assist with the cleaning of bus shelters, park and ride lots, and bus stops as necessary.
Pick up and dispose of garbage at bus stops and shelters when necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of assigned duties, and perform recurring tasks without direct supervision.
Requires the ability to read, write clearly, and perform mathematic equations.
Requires the ability to read and understand blueprints.
Requires intermediate to advanced knowledge and skills of mechanical systems, woodworking, plumbing, and carpentry.
Knowledge of grounds maintenance and botany is desired.
Ability to operate a two-way radio.
Ability to operate safely a motor vehicle with standard or automatic transmission.
Requires the ability and mechanical skills to maintain and use various gas and electrical shop and grounds equipment such as, but not limited to, power mowers, edger, sweeper, washer, skill saw, welder, cutting torch, and drills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to perform continuous physical effort including frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, kneeling, twisting, manipulation, lifting and carrying of shop equipment and materials.
Must be able to hear warning horns when vehicles are in motion.
