Job Summary
The Evergreen State College seeks a part-time adjunct faculty member for the 26-27 academic year with broad training and experience in linguistically and culturally responsive early childhood education who is interested in teaching in a collaborative, liberal arts context using a student-centered approach. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with students from underserved populations, and whose teaching emphasizes applied, critical, interdisciplinary, and social justice-oriented approaches to early childhood education. The successful candidate will collaboratively teach a 5-credit early childhood education course each quarter at The Evergreen State College-Tacoma campus undergraduate program using a dual language (Spanish-English) approach.

The faculty member will team teach a five-credit early childhood education course using a Spanish-English dual language approach. Faculty are generally responsible for evaluating 25 students per quarter, though their team-taught class may include up to 50 students. This arrangement allows for in-depth, interdisciplinary, and experiential learning, and the building of strong learning communities. Faculty are also responsible for advising students as they reflect on their learning process and progress in the ECE pathway of study.

Because over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, that support bilingualism and cross-cultural understanding, and that foster a learning environment where all are welcome, and all can learn from each other. Minimum Qualifications

- Master’s degree in early childhood education or related field
- Bilingual (Spanish-English)
- Demonstrated experience with dual language early childhood education and culturally responsive teaching
- Experience with the Adult Dual Language model for early childhood teacher education
- Demonstrated experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse and historically marginalized populations
- Background and experience with Theatre of the Oppressed techniques and folkloric cultural arts in education
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education (preferred focus on linguistically and culturally responsive methodologies)
- Demonstrated expertise in culturally based social and emotional methodologies and strategies for addressing intergenerational trauma
- Knowledge of effective communication and proven writing strategies in English and one of the following: Tigrinya, Somali, Spanish, ASL, and Ebonics
- Experience with trilingual approaches and Indigenous languages in early childhood education
- Commitment to ongoing professional development around inclusive teaching and Universal Design
