GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction and supervision of the Member Services Supervisor this position is to provide excellent member services. 

KNOW HOW

  • A high school diploma, or its equivalent and customer service experience is preferred.
  • Basic computer data entry skills required.
  • Basic washer and dryer operations.
  • Communication skills required, including ability to answer telephone calls and communicate YMCA programs and activities over the telephone.
  • Maintain current certifications in First Aid (CPR AED if opening/closing staff), Safety and Risk Management, Child Abuse Prevention and New Employee Orientation or the ability to obtain within 60-90 days of employment.

 

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet members by name with a positive, professional attitude. 
  • Scan member’s card (when computer is down, have member sign in and code the visit)
  • Check for invalid or expired cards and follow through by sending member to member service center for renewal or list the member’s number on the invalid list
  • Wash, dry and fold towels and keep dryer lint screen clean.
  • Loan recreational equipment and make sure it’s returned accruing to procedures.
  • Assist with incoming calls when lines ring more than three times.
  • Help with any medical emergencies and document as required by the YMCA rules and regulations.
  • Maintain Away and Regular Guest Book.
  • Assist members with lost and found items.
  • Keep Hospitality Desk area neatly maintained.
  • Morning Operator Assignments
    1. Turn on Lights
    2. Turn on Computer and set screen for scanning
    3. Straighten back room (lost and found) and washer and dryer area
    4. Make sure lifeguard is on duty
    5. Make sure Maintenance person is on duty
    6. Answer phones until membership personnel arrive
  • Evening Operator Assignments
    1. Turn off lights and shut down computers
    2. Coordinate closing of building with closing supervisor
  • Provide a safe environment for all participants, volunteers and staff.
  • Actively participate in the Invest-in-Youth annual campaign.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings associated with the Membership Department.
  • Assist with other projects as needed.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport equipment.
  • Ability to observe participants.
  • Ability to concentrate even when distracted by noise and activity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants, staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to reason, solve problems and make independent judgment and decisions.
  • Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.
  • Ability to observe and promote safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to physically and mentally respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.

MEMBER INVOLVEMENT SKILLS

  • Be informed and up to date on the latest developments in your field.
  • Acquaint members with other YMCA programs and benefits.
  • Develop relationships that promote the building of small communities.
  • Recommend participation in a variety of YMCA programs.
  • Support our YMCA annual campaign by inviting members to participate.
  • Be able to articulate the role and importance of volunteers.
  • Be informed about volunteer opportunities.
  • Provide an environment in which valuing diversity is encouraged and the 40 Developmental Assets can be built and emphasized.
