Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. To qualify for the GS-05 level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes basic knowledge of project plan suitability, assists with the investigation of construction phases for compliance with schedules, and assists with preparing construction progress reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04) OR Education: Completed a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in a major study in the appropriate field of study such as engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR that included 24 hours in a combination of courses such as drafting, surveying, mathematics, physical science, industrial technology, industrial arts, or technical subjects pertinent to construction; or engineering technician work such as electricity, material testing, or engineering mechanics. To qualify for the GS-06 level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing project planning suitability, assists with investigation of construction phases for compliance with schedules and preparing construction progress reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05) OR Education: Successfully completed a half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as engineering, construction, or industrial technology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Experience and Education: Specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and some graduate level education as described above, but less than the required half year. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). OR Combination of Experience and Education: Specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and some graduate level education as described above, but less than the required one year. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification) OR Combination of Experience and Education: Specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and more than one year but less than the required education as described above. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education above 1 year (18 semester hours) by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. To qualify for the GS-09 level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing or interpreting construction project plans, drawings, and/or specifications; and assisting with the preparation or review of contract documentation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08) OR Education: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as engineering, construction, or industrial technology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Experience and Education: Specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and at least one year of graduate education as described above, but less than the required two years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
