About the role

The Data Protection and Storage Services (DPSS) team provides infrastructure design, implementation, and management for storage systems and data protection services. These services include block, object, and file storage platforms, backup systems, data copy management, and resilient storage.

Infrastructure Automation Engineering uses Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and engineering discipline to design, build, and maintain large-scale storage and backup systems with high efficiency and availability using the combination of software and systems engineering practices. In this position, you will leverage an SRE mindset and set of engineering approaches to running better production systems and optimizations, with efforts focused on limiting time spent on reactive operational work, eliminating manual work through automation, performance tuning, and growing the efficiency of production systems. Our Infrastructure Automation Engineers are responsible for the big picture of how our systems relate and communicate; we use a breadth of tools and approaches to tackle a broad spectrum of problems.

DPSS' culture of diversity, intellectual curiosity, creative problem-solving, and openness is essential to its success. Our organization brings together people with various backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We encourage everyone to collaborate, both within and outside our team, think big, and take risks in a blame-free environment. We promote self-direction to work on meaningful projects while striving to build an environment that provides the support and mentorship needed to learn and grow.

  • Design, implement, and support large-scale storage and backup systems, including engaging in and improving the whole services lifecycle — from inception and design to deployment, operation, refinement, retirement, and decommissioning.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage and implement automation and infrastructure, such as code, to provision, maintain, and remediate storage and data protection platforms.
  • Support and maintain services and systems before they go live and when in production, including monitoring availability, latency, performance, and system health.
  • Contribute to systematic exploration, discovery, and recommendation of new and emerging technologies pertaining to DPSS' services.
  • Create, update, and maintain documentation reflecting all storage and backup systems' architecture, configuration, and operation.
  • Provide incident and ticket responses and participate in an on-call rotation.
  • The candidate should have extensive hands-on experience with Enterprise Block Storage, File Service Platforms (IBM FS Series, NetApp, and Panzura), and enterprise backup and recovery systems (Rubrik).
  • Experience developing/scripting with Automation, Orchestration, and Configuration Management tools. Strong experience with one of the following: Python, PowerShell, Chef, Teraform, or Ansible (preferred).
  • Applicant should have a BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in a related technical field.
  • Candidate should have a minimum of five years or more of practical experience.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Interest in crafting, analyzing, and improving large-scale storage and backup systems.
  • Bring a systematic problem-solving approach, solid communication skills, and a sense of ownership and drive.
  • Demonstrate administrative expertise with OneDrive for Business in the M365 cloud suite.
  • Capable of debugging and optimizing code and automating routine tasks.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM (On call rotation- once every 3 months)

Location: 820 Follin Lane, Vienna, VA 22180 | 5510 Heritage Oaks Drive Pensacola, FL 32526
