Patient Assistant - Orthopedic Surgery Center

Position Summary:
The Patient Assistant provides direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, utilizing his/her skill and expertise to complement other health care providers. Major functions include: collecting data, recording, and reporting patient information to the RN. Assisting patients with ambulating or providing appropriate activity using lift devices, transfer belts, etc. as necessary; assisting with nutritional needs (feeding); performing vital signs, i.e., temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; measuring and recording intake and output. Patient care is adapted to fit age-specific needs of each patient.
Work Schedule:
Part time, .60 FTE, Monday thru Friday, varying dayshift hours. No weekends or holidays.
Required Qualifications:
- BLS provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, or American Red Cross.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school graduate preferred.
- Nursing Assistant Certification preferred
- Listed on the Nursing Assistant Registry preferred
- Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients
