Ensemble Convenor - Strings
The Ensemble Convenor is a logistical and artistic leader of a particular musical group made up of college residents. The ensemble convenor helps to create a creative and inclusive environment in which young people can continue their exploration and enjoyment for music and leads students to make a significant impact to the cultural and creative life of Ormond more broadly.
Key Tasks
Ensemble Convenor:
• Recruit and guide College residents to form the nominated musical ensemble
• Select musical works, in conjunction with the Dean, to build a range of pieces for performance throughout the college year
• Lead regular rehearsals of the ensemble at a frequency agreed up on in conjunction with the Dean
• Teach/educate those interested in learning further musical technique
• Ensure that performance and rehearsal venues are set up for relevant activities before scheduled times
• Monitor attendance and punctuality within the ensemble to ensure high levels of participation
• Ensure venues are returned to their original set up
• Ensure that Ormond College property is appropriately cared for
• Ensure required sheet music, equipment and other materials are sourced, with appropriate notice, in conjunction with the Dean
• Meet at a regularly agreed interval with the Associate Dean to report on the activities of the ensemble
Strings Ensemble:
• Ensure the entire ensemble has music, at a performance standard, including but not limited to the following occasions:
o Open Day
o Mother’s Day/Father’s Day Brunch
o Christmas in July/August Formal Hall
o Commencement & Valedictory Dinners, as needed
o Et Vetera Luncheon
• Ensure two pieces are ‘performance ready’ for the Semester One Music Gala
• Other duties as directed by Leadership
