2025 Summer Intern - EHS

Summary:

As an EHS Intern, you will support environmental programs focused on minimizing the environmental impact of chemical process operations. Your responsibilities will include improving process documentation, conducting inventories and audits to ensure regulatory compliance, and sampling water discharges from chemical process equipment. This internship offers hands-on experience and provides exposure to a diverse range of plant operations, allowing you to contribute to impactful sustainability initiatives while developing valuable industry skills.

Responsibilities Include:

Refrigerant System Inventory: 

  • Create an inventory of all HFC refrigerant systems on site that contain 15 pounds or greater to comply with 40 CFR 84 HFC Management Rule.

  • Develop a training plan for on site HVAC technicians to outline the upcoming leak repair requirements for HFC refrigerant appliances with a full charge of 15 pounds or greater.

Generator and Degreaser Audits:

  • Complete a comprehensive review to update location changes of any degreasers and complete the Title V Parts Cleaner Inspection Checklist.

  • Walkdown of all generators to confirm compliance with regulatory requirements.

Process Water Sampling and Modeling: 

  • Obtain samples from scrubber and process discharge points. Work with production and waste treatment plant engineers to determine list of contaminants for analysis.

  • Utilize analytical results to evaluate compliance with chemical sewer requirements and update associated modeling.

Environmental Library Organization and Cataloging:

  • Digitizing and archiving appropriate records in preparation for library relocation.

  • Goal is to reduce number of documents that need to be moved and maximize the amount that can be digitize and archived.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related engineering discipline.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Capable of thinking and working independently with advisement from project engineer(s).

  • Effective communication and time-management skills.

Program Requirements

  • The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship.

  • The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.

The following qualifications are preferred for the role:

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and documentation is a plus.

This position demands physical stamina, requiring regular sitting, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, twisting, turning, grasping, and movement within the facility. Walking on various surfaces and maintaining balance are essential. Strong sensory abilities, including hearing, sight, and clear speech, are necessary. Lifting to 50 pounds may be required. Certain positions may necessitate passing a fit test and wearing a respirator.

The work environment for this position is a manufacturing setting, which may expose employees to outdoor weather conditions and loud noise levels. Candidates must be adaptable and comfortable working in a traditional business environment. Students enrolled in a Graduate degree level program are eligible to receive a higher rate than the range listed below. Master's rate: $32/hr

What We Offer:

Base Pay Range: $22.00 - $26.00
