Our Internship Program: Our 2024 Summer Internship Program is a paid 12-week internship program, scheduled to begin on June 3, 2024. Interns are expected to work full-time throughout the summer.
Summer interns will join an intern class consisting of undergraduate and graduate students to work on exciting projects in one of EDC’s many dynamic departments. Summer Interns will also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program.
Our Summer 2024 Internship Program application deadline is Friday, January 26. All materials must be submitted by EOD that date – incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Department Overview: The Funding Agreements Department oversees all contracts that enable NYCEDC to distribute funds to non-City organizations for projects that provide the City with public benefit. Projects range from renovations to property acquisitions to multi-phased construction projects. Funding recipients include small community organizations (often for community and senior centers, social services organizations, healthcare facilities, and museums), internationally recognized cultural institutions, and private entities implementing key economic development projects. The intern will work on projects to centralize and consolidate various reporting requirements; to streamline processes with internal and external stakeholders; and to complete documentation of critical project milestones. In addition, the intern will also process payments, compile approval documents for the NYC Office of Management & Budget and the NYC Comptroller and liaise between various departments within NYCEDC.
Intern Responsibilities:
- Assist project manager directly and significantly with active projects
- Work with department staff to facilitate the implementation of contracts funding capital construction projects throughout NYC
- Assist project managers in researching, data collection, writing technical briefs, and designing classes/workshops
- Assist project managers in collecting, reviewing and processing project documents
- Assist in reviewing, approving, and tracking a large volume of reimbursements requests from client organizations
- Coordinate between external agencies, internal departments, and funding recipients the collection and maintenance of compliance documentation
- Work with project managers to develop and implement process solutions to improve operational efficiency
- Assist with coordinating and hosting departmental programming events
- Monitor and track internal inquiries by other department, City agencies, and client organizations
- Perform general department office duties
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Preferred field(s) of study: Interest in most or all the following is beneficial: construction projects and management; general project management; community-based organizations and/or non-profits; project and public budgeting; municipal government and government agencies; public private partnerships; and private and public project funding streams. Background coursework in non-profit administration, public administration, public policy, urban planning, capital or public finance, and/or GIS is also ideal, but not required.
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC
- Proven ability in using database and presentation tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines
- Proactive and able to work in collaborativ
