Job Summary

The Patient Sitter responsibilities include supervising patients, alerting nurses and other healthcare professionals when needed, and providing emotional support to patients. The Patient Sitter will work directly with patients who are at risk of hurting themselves or those around them.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

  • GED or High School Diploma required or current high school student in pursuit of GED to be obtained within one calendar year
  • Current CPR certification is required.

Work Experience

  • No work experience required
  • Must be emotionally mature and able to function under stress.

Required Skill

  • Having the ability to promote a calming environment

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists patients with activities of daily living.
  • Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Measures temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, height/weight, and intake and output and reports abnormal values to assigned nurse.
  • Assists with care such as position, lifting, and transferring patients with proper body mechanisms and ambulating patients as directed by the assigned nurse.
  • Transports patients as needed, such as to radiology, surgery, or another nursing unit.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment by leaving patient rooms in order, by reporting equipment that is out of order, and by cleaning equipment as needed.
  • Answers telephone, call system, and greets visitors professionally, and routes information received to the appropriate personnel.
  • Promotes confidentiality and uses complete discretion when discussing information.
  • Floats to other areas assigned, responds to floating requests with a positive attitude.

Non-Essential Functions

 

  • Performs additional task as assigned.
  • Attends and satisfactorily completes annual competency.
  • Completes annual HealthStream assignments as assigned.
  • Attends in services on new equipment.
  • Participates in 75% of staff meetings as evidence by attendance records.
  • Floats to other areas as assigned with a positive attitude.
