Cloud Software Engineer Level 2

Position Summary 

This mid-level Cloud Engineer position will be part of a 3-member team applying cutting edge technology and data science to improve the speed, efficiency, and efficacy of the Data Science department tools. The successful candidate will have a broad-based background in Java, Python, and Data Science and can assist the customer’s data scientists with implementing analytics and improving performance at scale. 

Essential Functions Statements 

This software engineer will assist the team with migrating Jupyter Notebooks to Java and integrating them into the customer’s corporate architecture. Working with new data sources, correlation with other existing data sources is also part of this effort. The candidate will also be responsible for mentoring junior staff in Data Science and programming concepts.

Competency Statements

• Must have experience in PySpark or Map-Reduce.
• Must be familiar with Big Data, GhostMachine, DX, XKS, Gambit, AVP, or AVG.
• Must be able to work in a team environment with strong written and oral communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibility
 This role has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Work Environment
 This job operates in a clerical, office setting.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

Physical Demands
 This is a largely sedentary role; however, some physical abilities may be required. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
 This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.

 Required Education, Experience and Certificates
 Education: 

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field is desired and may be used to substitute for four years of additional experience. A master’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field is welcome and may be used to substitute for an additional two years of additional experience.

 Experience:  

•At least five (5) years of general experience in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution.

•At least three (3) years of experience developing software with high level languages (such as Java, C, C++), developing software in UNIX/Linux (RedHat versions 3-5+), and software integration and testing (to include developing and implementing test plans and scripts).

•At least two (2) years of experience with distributed scalable Big Data Store (NoSQL) such as H Base, CloudBase/Accumulo, Big Table, etc., as well as Map Reduce programming model, the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), and technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Etc.

 
 Preferred Education, Experience and Certificates

• Demonstrated Java Map/Reduce experience.
• Strong Python Experience
• Familiarity with Data Science Methodologies
• Experience retrieving data from corporate warehouses using Python and Java
• Knowledge of Jupyter Notebooks
• Familiarity with Tradecraft Suite and Notebook Gallery
• Knowledge of data flows within the customer architecture
• Experience with Gitlab, Maven, and Jenkins

 
 Additional Eligibility Qualifications
 Must be able to accomplish all duties with little or no assistance.
 Must have good command of the English language; oral and written.
 
 Work Authorization/Security Clearance
 Employee must be a US citizen. 

Employee must have and maintain a Top-Secret SCI with Full-Scope Poly Clearance Level.
