About the Opportunity 

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and serving as a key member of the Development leadership team, the Senior Director of Development, Individual Giving (the “SD, IG”) will provide both the strategic direction and operational management necessary to advance the Foundation’s mission through growing, refining, and directing a comprehensive and successful individual giving development program. The SD, IG works closely with the Development team and senior leadership to achieve fundraising goals.

The Development team works to secure the philanthropic resources necessary to advance the Foundation’s mission through its programs and operations. The team works closely with volunteers and colleagues from across the organization to present the Foundation’s case for support through primarily through individual gifts and foundation support. Team members collaborate to maximize engagement and giving from individual donors and institutional funders alike. 

This role is based in NYC and in office a minimum of three days per week.

Core Responsibilities  

Direct Donor Fundraising 

  • Under the direction of the CDO, the SD, IG manages and grows an assigned portfolio of individual donors and prospective donors with targeted annual and multi-year giving of $250,000 - $5,000,000 to meet established goals.
  • Engages in the direct cultivation and solicitation of donors and prospects, including through in-person meetings, telephone, written solicitations/proposals, email, and other means tailored as specifically as possible to donor preferences.
  • Works with CDO and other Development staff in the identification, qualification, and strategic cultivation of new, high net-worth individuals with both philanthropic capacity and propensity to support the Foundation at the major gift level. 

Leadership and Management 

  • Manages the organization’s individual and event-driven fundraising to generate and increase overall revenue through the development and implementation of annual goals.
  • Leads the Foundation’s annual giving event-driven fundraising plan and event schedule, including identifying and soliciting event hosts, and ensuring that the development team is working with them to meet or exceed fundraising goals,  
  • Participates in and actively contributes to prospect management and coordination efforts across the Development team, including continuous effort to identify and qualify new prospects for personal portfolio, as well as portfolios of others on the team.  
  • Leads by example, coaches, and inspires others to meet and exceed annual fundraising goals through effective use and monitoring of key performance metrics and interim goals. 

Fundraising Administration & Operations 

  • Manages efforts with the Development team, to create/execute prospect lists for events in the context of annual solicitation plans for assigned prospects, as well as broader outreach to new prospects.  
  • Oversees registration tracking, progress to goals, and reporting to CDO for all fundraising events.  
  • Oversees, in coordination with the CDO, event budgets, contracts, and vendor relations.  
  • Oversees development of annual giving event briefings for principals and key executives and liaises with the Marketing team to produce event-related collateral.
