Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Trail Stree Lab located in Jackson, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

Laboratory Services is the single point of contact for providing technical expertise in the areas of calibration, chemistry, nondestructive and materials testing, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance testing. We are committed to maintaining and strengthening our long-term working relationships by ensuring professionalism, competence, confidence, and trust are demonstrated with every service we provide. Our Laboratory uses modern technology and serves a diverse clientele in a wide variety of fields. We perform both laboratory and field work and offer pickup and delivery of equipment of any samples that require special handling.

 

The Lab Technical Analyst performs complex, analytical technical work. Contributes to technical projects or programs, responsible for not only the technical aspects of the projects but also quoting, customer interface, and logistical planning. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and international codes related to the testing and analysis being performed. Performs independent evaluations of new examination methods and technologies and works with internal and external stakeholders for process validation and approval. Uses technical knowledge, experience, and judgment to make decisions outside the scope of standard acceptance criteria.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Laboratory Technical Analyst is responsible for managing the daily Quality Assurance/Quality Control responsibilities of moderately complex construction projects to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with the established standards, project scope of work, design drawings, and specifications. This position will also lead, document, and coordinate all Quality improvement activities, Non-Conformance Reporting, Root Cause Investigation, Problem Solving, and Lessons Learned while working closely with project managers, construction managers, supplier representatives on site, and other key personnel. Effective communication skills are required to create and implement Project Quality Plans and act as a liaison between Inspection, Project Management, Engineering, Cost Controls, Document Control, and the Contractor. The analyst will be expected to provide QA/QC services to various CE projects across the state of Michigan (i.e., gas delivery, electric generation, gas storage, gas compression, hydro generation, and/or renewable energy).

 

  • Execute standard examination procedures
  • Plan and set up long-term technical test plans including examination protocols, logistics, communication, execution of test plan, all necessary QA/QC, and report submittals
  • Contribute to long-term projects and programs, maintain responsibility for all customer facing aspects of the project
  • In-depth understanding of industry codes and requirements in order to develop examination procedures and methods
  • Equipment and test method evaluation and validation
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Certification in a broad array of technical procedures (Variable and defined by specific department)
  • Professional customer interface, requiring excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Independent/ Self-motivated/ Sustained high productivity
  • Reliably high quality, consistent work product
  • Agility/ flexibility dependent upon varying department needs
  • Ability to maintain performance and composure during audits and technical certification testing
  • Timely reporting of examination data

  • Problem solving around processes, equipment, and specific technical methods
  • Project and program planning, including contingencies, logistics, customer coordination and interface

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in technical or scientific field with two (2) or more years of relevant experience
    • [OR] Associate's
