The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Bureau of Parks and Lands Division, is recruiting to fill two Seasonal Full Time Assistant Park Ranger positions, located in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and the Penobscot River Corridor.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is maintenance and personal services work in a remote recreational environment. Typical duties include cleaning campsites, collecting fees, repairing facilities as needed, monitoring public use, responding to incidents, and maintaining equipment and records. The person in this position will be trained and certified in Wilderness First Aid, chainsaw operation, and boat operation as a requirement of this position.  

The person in this position must be able to live and work independently in remote conditions and must be able to operate a range of equipment, including vehicles, safely and efficiently, motorboats, radio systems, canoes with and without motors, chainsaws, and other power and hand tools.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to follow directions.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Valid Class C Maine motor vehicle operator’s license.

Applicants must also be able to meet the required training and certification requirements within a timeframe determined by the supervisor based on training opportunities.

The following general information pertains to seasonal employment at Maine State Parks: 

• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older (Lifeguards must be 16 or older)
• Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or have legal authority to work in the U.S.
• Housing is provided in the Penobscot River Corridor and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway
• In general, housing is not available at the other parks
• Most positions are scheduled to work 40 hours each week, with weekends and some holidays required
• Parks seasonal positions are required to wear uniforms which are provided by the agency
