Part-Time Weekend Resident Assistant

Primary Office: St. Margaret of Cortona, Woodbridge VA
Hours per Week: Saturday and Sunday evenings from 8pm to 4am- 16 hours/week

Summary
The St. Margaret of Cortona Transitional Housing and Maternity Housing Ministries of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington provide case management, counseling, child services and workforce development to pregnant women and single mothers experiencing homelessness. SMC offers up to 24 months of transitional housing to homeless single mothers with children exiting emergency or domestic violence shelters. The Maternity Housing Program serves single pregnant women, including those at high risk.
The Weekend Resident Assistant serves as an important member of the St. Margaret of Cortona (SMC) team, ensuring the safety of residents and that all weekend policies and procedures are followed. The position covers weekend evenings from 8pm to 4am on Saturday and Sunday.

Position Responsibilities
• Provide housing oversight ensuring safety protocols; make scheduled rounds to ensure the premises are secure and evacuate the units in cases of emergency.
• Monitor and document notable resident, approved visitor and/or unauthorized visitor movements/interactions on SMC property.
• Engage, and support residents as interactions allow when they are awake.
• Monitor security cameras and maintain accurate logs of unauthorized or unusual activity on site.
• Act promptly to notify first responders and the Program Director of any concerns or incidents, including Program Violations. Routine review of unmonitored security footage.
• Respond to office phone calls and connect with appropriate persons or resources to address emergencies.


Other Duties
• Administer urine screen and breathalyzer tests as needed, with another staff member present.
• Evaluate and provide for basic needs of clients while on shift. Distribute household items, toiletries and other items to clients as needed.
• Collaborate with other staff members to facilitate occasional community events for residents.

Qualifications & Skills
• Competency in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and other relevant software.
• Valid Driver’s license, 3 years of driving in the US and safe driving record.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and trauma-informed care practices.
• Willing to uphold Catholic Social Teaching in the workplace.
• Effective listening skills and ability to collaborate with community members on sometimes controversial issues. Position requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
• Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays including holidays.
• The position is considered "essential" personnel in times of hardship, such as extreme weather conditions and/or other emergencies.
• Knowledge of Mandated Reporting Requirements.
• Ability to learn new tasks and procedures, comply with processes, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.

Education and Experience
• A high school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Experience working in programs serving victims of domestic violence is a plus.
• Current CPR/ First aid certification or ability to obtain certification within 60 days of employment.
• 2+ years of experience in human services or emergency shelter experience

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, climb stairs, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard. Specific vision requirements due to computer work and driving a motor vehicle. Light to moderate lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
