Position Summary
The Program Director, Digital Learning, will lead the strategic development, implementation, and management of new graduate-level online education initiatives at the Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI). This position is responsible for building and launching innovative digital academic programs, including fully online and hybrid graduate offerings, in alignment with DGHI’s mission to achieve health equity globally. While digital learning will be the primary focus of this role, the program director position will also include responsibilities related to the planning, coordination, and enhancement of DGHI’s residential undergraduate and graduate academic programs.
The role focuses on curriculum development, faculty engagement, course scheduling, learning technology implementation, marketing and student outreach, and coordination with key Duke University administrative units. The Program Director will work closely with faculty leadership, the DGHI Education team, The Graduate School, the University Registrar, Duke Visa Services, and other university stakeholders to ensure academic excellence, operational effectiveness, and compliance with university policies.
This position reports to the Deputy Director of Academic Programs.

Digital Learning, 70%
Program Development and Administration (30%)
- Lead the design, development, and launch of new graduate online and hybrid programs.
- Develop program proposals and shepherd new programs through Duke governance and approval processes.
- Establish multi-year implementation timelines and operational plans.
- Collaborate with faculty directors and curriculum committees to align digital offerings with DGHI competencies and academic standards.
- Develop and maintain annual program operations calendars.
- Prepare annual reports and contribute to accreditation and program review documentation.
Curriculum and Course Development (15%)
- Partner with faculty, Duke staff and education consultants to design and develop high-quality online and hybrid courses.
- Research and provide guidance on best practices in online pedagogy, instructional design, and digital assessment.
- Coordinate course scheduling and ensure compliance with Duke academic policies.
- Oversee course proposal submission and approval processes.
- Monitor course evaluations and student feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Educational Technology and Digital Platforms (10%)
- Lead implementation and optimization of Canvas and Coursera platforms for DGHI programs.
- Collaborate with instructional designers, IT teams, and external platform partners.
- Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance online learning experiences.
- Ensure accessibility, compliance, and quality standards in digital course delivery.
Marketing and Student Outreach (5%)
- Partner with DGHI Communications to develop recruitment strategies for online programs.
- Contribute to digital marketing content, webinars, and information sessions.
- Monitor enrollment trends and support outreach initiatives to expand program reach.
University Liaison and Partnerships (5%)
- Serve as primary liaison to The Graduate School, University Registrar, Duke Visa Services, and other university units.
