Turner Industries is looking for a Machinist for work in the Corpus Christi, TX area.
This position is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. The Machinist will troubleshoot and repair various in-plant rotating equipment, perform routine PMs and lubrication on equipment, and recommend improvements for bad actors. The role also includes assisting other crafts when required and performing duties within the guidelines of OQ work processes.
- Position requires working 10 hours/days 4 days/week with alternating scheduled weekend duty. May have to work overtime and callouts when required.
Functional Requirements:
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers, Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders, Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers, Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations, Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines, Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process, Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances, Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work, Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts, Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs, Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled, Maintain industrial machines and apply knowledge of mechanics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures, Position and fasten workpieces, Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency, Install repaired parts into equipment or install new equipment, Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter, Advise clients about the materials being used for finished products, Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools, Supervise onsite contractors when using the equipment, Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Qualification Standards:
- High school or equivalent
- Five years as a rotating equipment mechanic in a commercial and industrial environment
- Knowledge of SAP desired
- Lathe and Mill experience desired
- Preferred completion of an accredited millwright certification program
- Knowledge of all machine tools (hand and powered) and associated hazards
- Special focus on safety hazards with lathes and cutting tools
- Good communication skills and computer skills
- Strong attention to detail with excellent mathematical skills
- Written pre-employment qualification test
- Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
- Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
- Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)

Physical Involvement:
May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing / sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE; typing / data entry; stepstool use; work in excessive heat; work in excessive cold; work in loud environment
