Lean / Continuous Improvement Co-Op – Fall/Winter 2026
Location: Parsippany, NJ or Allentown, PA Business: GE Vernova – Gas Power Duration: 6+ Months (Full-Time)
The Energy to Change the World
GE Vernova is a planned, purpose-built energy company that includes Power, Wind, and Electrification segments and is supported by its accelerator businesses. At GE Vernova, we are working to solve the world's most pressing challenge—the energy transition. Our Gas Power business provides more advanced, cleaner, and efficient power that people depend on today while building the energy technologies of the future.
What impact you will make:
As a Lean / Continuous Improvement Co-op, you will work directly on the shop floor alongside operators and manufacturing teams to identify waste, remove barriers, and drive daily improvements that make jobs easier, safer, and more efficient. This role is hands-on: you'll spend significant time at the gemba (where the work happens), observing processes, talking with operators, and turning their ideas into tested, working solutions. You'll build prototypes, test countermeasures, and help embed a culture of continuous improvement at the operator level.
What you will do:
Gemba-Based Problem Solving: Spend regular time on the production floor observing work, identifying pain points, and partnering with operators to understand day-to-day challenges.
Incremental Improvements: Design, prototype, and implement small-scale, low-cost solutions (fixtures, visual aids, tooling adjustments, workstation layouts) that reduce operator strain, cycle time, or variation.
Lean Tools & Methods: Apply Lean and Six Sigma tools—5S, standard work, value stream mapping, kaizen events, A3 problem solving, and visual management—to drive measurable improvements.
Rapid Prototyping: Build and test quick, iterative prototypes (using basic fabrication, 3D printing, or off-the-shelf materials) to validate ideas before full-scale implementation.
Operator Engagement: Act as a resource and advocate for operators, capturing their feedback and translating it into actionable improvement projects.
Project Ownership: Lead small-to-medium CI projects from idea generation through implementation and follow-up, tracking results and sharing out lessons learned.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with manufacturing engineers, quality, and production supervisors to align improvements with broader operational goals.
Safety & Standards: Ensure all improvements maintain or enhance safety and comply with current standards and procedures.
What you'll bring (Basic Qualifications):
Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Operations Management, or a related field.
Accepted Majors: Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related disciplines.
Desired Characteristics:
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (without rounding).
Strong interest in Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and hands-on problem solving.
Comfortable working on the shop floor and building rapport with operators and production teams.
Practical, hands-on mindset—comfortable prototyping with basic tools/materials and iterating quickly.
Analytical thinking with the ability to break down problems and test simple, effective solutions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to listen to operator feedback and translate it into action.
Self-motivated, curious, and comfortable taking initiative on small projects with limited direction.
Prior exposure to Lean/Six Sigma tools (5S, kaizen, A3, standard work) is a plus but not required.
Eligibility Requirements:
Internship Term: Fall/Winter 2026 (Target Start: September 21, 2026).
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week (1st Shift).
Authorization: This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government export restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Persons (U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents and protected individuals (e.g., certain refugees and asylees)). GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Pay Range: $21.00
