Specific business unit duties may include the following:
Assisting in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of basic instrumentation and control systems on the offshore wind farms. The role focuses on learning the operation of systems on the wind turbines and both the onshore and offshore substations such as sensors, transmitters, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) used in operations. Under the guidance of more experienced technicians, the technician supports preventive maintenance activities and follows safety and compliance protocols.
This position demands a proactive and safety-conscious approach to working in a challenging and dynamic offshore environment, ensuring the reliability and safety of critical wind generation systems while adhering to industry standards and best practices. Understanding of the basic electric grid, including transmission and substation operations, as well as knowledge of NERC compliance, including evidence collection and documentation, is essential for maintaining the integrity and regulatory compliance of offshore wind operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Instrument Technician I- 0-2 years relevant experience in mechanical electrical, and instrumentation work.
Instrument Technician II- 3+ years relevant experience in mechanical electrical, and instrumentation work.
Instrument Technician III- 5+ years relevant experience in mechanical electrical, and instrumentation work.
For jobs in an offshore or marine environment may prefer:
Familiarity with offshore-specific equipment, safety protocols, and procedures is advantageous.
Experience with PLCs, VFDs (variable frequency drive), and remote monitoring systems commonly used in offshore wind farms is preferred.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of AC and DC electrical theory, including knowledge of electrical symbols and formulas, is required. Proficiency in reading and interpreting offshore-specific wiring diagrams, instruments, and electrical schematics is crucial. Familiarity with SCADA systems used for monitoring and controlling offshore wind turbines is beneficial.
Compliance and NERC Standards:
