Job Description

The Material Handler is responsible for the movement of material throughout the site.  This may include loading/unloading of trailers and movement of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods. This role will be on 2nd shift, 2pm-10pm.

This posting is for the Oak Habor Shipping department and is subject to shift alignment. All interested individuals are encouraged to apply, with those currently in the Oak Harbor Shipping department receiving first consideration.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to: 

• Move material to/from raw, WIP, Finishing, Receiving, and Manufacturing areas.
• Unload/load trucks/tankers with incoming/outgoing materials. - Verify materials against receiving/shipping documents.
• Complete appropriate transactions to document the movement of material within the Inventory Management System.
• Support inventory accuracy:
  • Complete warehouse and departmental cycles counts and correct discrepancies
  • Help manage winding drum and rack inventories
• Raw/Finishing warehouse:
  • Pick up and transfer material racks, pallets, and other consumable supplies to/from production areas as required.
  • Condense warehouse space and maintain good housekeeping
• Perform all assignments, duties, and tasks in a safe manner following standard procedures and practices. Encourage others to do so. Correct and/or report all unsafe conditions immediately.
• Perform duties to continuously improve quality and productivity.
• Maintain a safe, clean work area.
• Assist in equipment maintenance activities as directed.
• Communicate and coordinate necessary information to the appropriate department/shift employees to ensure effective operations.
• Lead in the recycling of pallets, cardboard, and scrap materials.
• Support all 5S housekeeping activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be able to follow written and oral instruction.
• Must regard safety as a core value; must serve as a role model for other employees and encourage adherence to safety practices, policies and procedures.
• Must have strong service and quality focus; address issues effectively when problems arise and take initiative to understand root cause, then communicate/educate the team in a timely manner.

• Must be able and willing to work overtime, including short-notice requests.
• Must demonstrate proficiency with computer applications, especially strong Oracle transactional skills.

Preferred Requirements:

• 3-5+ year’s previous material handling experience.
• Solid interpersonal skills, mathematical aptitude, mechanical/technical aptitude and logical problem solving skills.
• Skilled in working independently in a safe and timely manner necessary.
• Be motivated towards productivity, safety and quality improvements
• Experience leading continuous improvement efforts and knowledgeable about ELS Operating Principles preferred.
• Adaptive, flexible, able to handle ambiguity.
• Experience working in a team environment.
