Position Summary
The local driver maintains a clean, well-equipped vehicle; operates the vehicle safely and economically; interfaces with the customer and third party representatives; and directs the moving crew in efficient, safe and damage-free relocation of goods.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs a pre-trip inspection of the assigned vehicle each day. Reports any unsafe, broken or worn parts on the vehicle to the local manager immediately.
- Ensures that the assigned vehicle is clean, well-organized and loaded with all necessary supplies and equipment before each job begins, and that it is returned in the same condition at the end of each job.
- Drives the assigned vehicle, observing all traffic rules, Mayflower standards and DFL’s practices for the safe, efficient and economical operation of the vehicle.
- Interfaces in a positive, professional manner with the customer, building manager, security officer, warehouse and office personnel, and third party service representatives during the course of the job.
- In the absence of a Commercial Supervisor or Project Manager, directs the activities of the moving crew to ensure efficient, safe and damage-free relocation of goods.
- Documents the condition of goods before loading and discusses any existing damage with the customer before loading begins.
- Protects, loads, and unloads goods with the assistance of the moving crew. Ensures the customer's premises are adequately protected to prevent damage.
- Accurately completes all paperwork related to the job and ensures the customer completes all necessary sections of the paperwork.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License and a clear driving record.
- Must be able to meet the driver requirements of the Department of Transportation.
- Must be able to lift, carry and use a variety of hand/power tools and moving equipment;
- Must be able to sufficiently speak, read and write English to communicate with customers, understand and give directions, and complete paperwork.
- Must successfully complete all safety, skills, customer service and supervisor training as required by the company.
