Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education. We are seeking a Manager Director to support the Development division. This position will report to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of PPFA. The Office of the CDO (OCDO) provides management, oversight and strategic direction across all donor audiences and channels of the Development org unit. The Office ensures revenue generation, donor diversity, and philanthropic support is nimble, enables collaboration with Planned Parenthood affiliates, and ensures adherence with governance and compliance requirements.
This position is required to work on a hybrid schedule with 2 days per week in either our NYC or DC offices.
Purpose:The Managing Director, Development is responsible for the efficient functioning of the Division, which has more than 150 staff members, raises more than $400 million annually for the Planned Parenthood national office (PPFA/PPAF/PPVotes/PPFedPAC), and provides financial support to the organization’s c3 affiliates, as well as affiliated c4 organizations, across the country. They will serve as a key partner for the CDO, a partner and counsel for the other members of the Senior Development Leadership Team, and a leader, connector, and partner to all staff in the division. The Managing Director will work to ensure that the CDO’s focus is on keeping pace with the Development division’s long range goals and the demands of their office while also balancing external commitments. Across the organization, this is an influential and visible role that requires an individual who is comfortable influencing without direct authority, unflappable in the face of high stress situations, able to respond to multiple competing demands, and is a true team player.
Engagement: The Managing Director will oversee a team responsible for scheduling, administration and operational support for the CDO and the division. They report to the CDO and will be a member of the Development division’s Senior Development Leadership Team (SDLT). The Managing Director serves as a key partner with other divisions across the organization, and represents the division at meetings of managing directors as well as other cross-divisional groups. They may represent the CDO at meetings of the Boards’ Strategy and Program Committees and partner with the CDO at meetings of the Boards’ Finance Committees. The Managing Director also represents the CDO at internal and external meetings and events, as needed.
Delivery: The Managing Director will provide critical support to the CDO and the Division in the following ways:
1) Principal support (50%)The primary focus of this role is to provide principal support, leadership, and management of the OCDO Team. This includes fully understanding and advancing PPFA’s fundraising priorities through the strategic use of the CDO’s time, relationships, and engagements. The Managing Director will be responsible for balancing the needs of stakeholders, especially the staff, ELT, affiliate CEOs and CDOs, and donors and determining what/who requires the most immediate attention, by whom and when. They will oversee the development of the CDO's strategic calendar and daily agenda, ensuring that priorities are identified and aligned for the CDO.
