About the role

SUMMARY:

The Senior Accountant will work with the Finance and Accounting Department to provide technical support for accounting and tax issues as well as contribute to accurate financial and tax reporting, compliance and related processes.  The Senior Accountant reports directly to our Sr. Manager of Accounting and will work out of our Service Center located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements including quarterly bank compliance.

Contribute to month end close process through journal entry preparation and account analysis including General and Administrative allocation and Food Service allocation.

Assist with understanding current accounting standards and have the ability to research and put into practice new accounting pronouncements.

Corporate bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations.

Assist with income tax filings and related account reconciliations.

Assist with tax abatement process and be responsible for renewals and compliance.

Assist with year- end audit and other compliance requirements.

Participate in projects related to various aspects of NHA finance department.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, preferred.

Public accounting experience preferred.

A minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in accounting and tax including knowledge of financial statements, accounting and tax principles and practices.

Understanding of GAAP accounting rules and have ability to research, apply concepts and document practices.

Ability to research and ensure compliance with various state tax laws and coordinate the related compliance.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to establish facts and develop conclusions.

Possess ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with individuals from various business units throughout the organization and represent NHA in a professional manner with outside advisors.

High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel.

 

This is an in-person position at our NHA Service Center located at 3850 Broadmoor Ave., Grand Rapids, MI.
